The hot summer days are approaching! We already have a few 100 degree days creeping up here in West Texas. I wanted to compile a list together for you guys of some of my favorite shorts for the season. As a Momma of four I like my shorts to be “Mom approved” and not completely torn up. I took my kids into a local boutique one time and the girl working had on booty shorts and my sweet 6yr old (at that time) boy straight up looked her in the eyes and said, “I can see your booty cheeks” She awkwardly smiled and slowly walked away. A mission of this little space of mine is to show women we can cover the things that should be covered and still feel cute and up with the trends. Less is not more when it comes to fashion, less is less. As a Mom of a young daughter I am setting a example and as a Mom of three young men I am setting the example. This is just my personal belief and opinion, I’m not here to condemn or to judge but, just to maybe give a different perspective. If I am raising up the next generation I want to do it well. As long as my kids are under my roof there will be certain things that are “non-negotiable” … this is one of them. My girl will not wear certain things and my boys will be raised to know they treat ALL women… no matter what they are wearing… with respect.
This Sunday at church I saw a boob and butt cheeks. And I only wish I was exaggerating. My husband did too. I couldn’t even get angry. I was just heartbroken. For one, the two girls I witnessed this from were both SO young, most likely high school young… maybe college. Two, we were at church.
This isn’t a topic where I am pointing and judging, please know that. I was a head Hooters girl for YEARS. So, this is a topic I am passionate about because, I get it. For so many reasons. I am sure I miss the mark here and there still to this day. I hope to minister to young women for this reason and many more one day!
It might sound lame but a “rule” of mine for shorts are the old school “finger tip” rule. I try to make sure my shorts are about the same length, or at least close to, the end of my finger tips. For tops, now that I am flat chested I don’t really seem to have a issue LOL But, back when I was a DD it was much harder to hide my huge chest. I honestly just try to secure anything I need to with double sided sticky tape. Dresses I usually always wear a slip under because now a days things tend to run on the “sheer” side and I also use the “finger tip” rule when it comes to length.
Anyways, my “Shorts” blog became a rant and I am sure I’ll receive some backlash for it but, I’m ok with that. I just want to give another perspective and some insight as a Momma raising four children and the next generation. Take it for what it’s worth. Pray about it. It took YEARS for me to get to this place. Like I mentioned before I worked at a place for YEARS where my chest and cheeks hung out for the world to see.
I quit working there in 2007. Right when I met Ricky actually. I had just met him, I went in for my shift that day. He text me and said “I just don’t think I can date a Hooters girl, I’m sorry” Only knowing him for about a week or two at that time, I left that shift and I never went back. Isn’t it funny how God does things?
I became a Mom in 2008 to my daughter. Shortly after I remember going to Hooters for lunch to see some of my old co-workers. I sat down, as a new Mom to a baby girl, and I watched. For hours. As the customers just stared at the women working. I remember thinking in that moment, long before I had even started pursuing Christ, that I would NEVER let my baby girl grow up to live the life I have lived. I wish I could say from that moment on everything changed but, it didn’t. I was still partying and living a very selfish life.
Here’s the thing with chasing Jesus. It takes time. You don’t give your life to Him on a Sunday and wake up Monday reciting scripture word for word. It’s a process. It’s a relationship. They take time to build. He meets you right where you’re at but, He won’t leave you there. Begin to read His word, study it, apply it, and watch how your perspective and life begin to change. Your values become eternal and your worth becomes His truths for your life. It’s beautiful. It’s hard. But, it’s worth it.
I hope and pray you hear my heartbeat on this subject and understand the passion behind it comes from a place of love, grace and understanding. NOT condemnation or judgement. Only God can convict you and stir something in your Spirit, just as He has done mine. It might sound silly but, pray about it. And you might be thinking well God doesn’t care about my shorts or what I wear. But He does. He cares about every little ounce of your being. Because He loves you that much. He cares about every single hair on your head. He cares about the condition of our hearts and souls. And I believe once the condition of our heart and soul are in the right place the way we live begins to look a little different. It’s not perfect by any means, I mean I said a cuss word for crying out loud just the other day. LOL. I know to some that’s nothing major but, to me it was. BUT as soon as it came out of my mouth I thought, man the condition of my heart is not in a good place therefor, neither were my words.
So now- here’s the simple list I hopped on here for in the first place. If you are a taller gal or just long legged make sure to check the inseams on some of these to see how the length will work for you. Another tip on shorts, I usually ALWAYS size up a size (unless they run big) I don’t like my shorts fitted so going up a size keeps them loose and sometimes will add some extra length.
