I could not be more thrilled with my veneers and my overall experience at Smile Texas in Houston! Even after a few weeks, it throws me off when I see myself in the mirror or in a picture…oh hey that’s my smile now! Dr. Dooley and her team did my gum tuck and veneers, I can’t recommend them enough. I did have a gum tuck with this (not everyone has to have one), and I was really worried about it. But it was not bad at all, just a little bit of pressure when numbing. I did not even need the gas. Recovery was easy, just a little sore. They had me wait 6 weeks for my gums to heal before temps.
The next step was to have my temporaries put on. For prepping, everyone is different. They have great highlights on their Instagram all about this @smiletexas_houston. Mine had to be shaved some between. With the temps, I tried to drink out of a straw and do room temperature water. I avoided anything super cold, so I asked for no ice drinks. It wasn’t too bad as long as nothing was super cold. I took very good care of the temps and was super cautious with what I was eating those two weeks.
Questions I Got:
Why Veneers?
I knew this was going to be the long term solution for me, my bonding on my teeth kept breaking. I have considered and thought about this since I was 18 years old. I did have Invisalign with St. Clair & Massey and had the BEST experience. It was going to be best for me to straighten everything out before getting veneers. I just got fitted for a new retainer for these veneers as well at St. Clair & Massey.
Did it hurt?
It did not hurt. The temps were “uncomfortable” because of sensitivity. You’re numb during the actual process, so nothing really hurt.
What is the price range?
This is going to be totally dependent on what you need. If you dm Smile Texas, they’ll tell you what pics to send, and then they’ll give you an estimate based off what you need. The price will range and vary depending on your teeth.
Are they going to last you a lifetime?
They will last decades if you take care of them.
How many veneers did you do?
I did the top 10 and bottom 10.
What shade did you choose? Do veneer colors have different undertones?
I told them from day one, I wanted the most natural look I could get. I did not want the brightest and biggest. I wanted them to fit my face well. I chose shade Bl2. There are cooler and warmer tones, they discussed that with me at the prep visit.
Are you more at risk for root canals?
I asked Dr. Dooley to answer. There is a long answer to this, but the easy answer is…no just getting veneers does not increase the tooth risk needing a root canal. But it’s very dependent on how aggressive the teeth need to be prepped. If someone needs braces for severe crowding, but they refuse to get braces and they want us to do veneers instead…then we always tell them we’re going to have to cut your tooth more. It’s always either informed consent like they know they’re going going to get a root canal ahead of time because of how much preparation we have to do to get the a tooth back in line. Or we tell them we see this big cavity there is a chance you will need a root canal after I remove the cavity.
How was getting used to your veneers?
The first week took adjusting. I had a little soreness, sensitivity and tender areas. But now, I don’t even think about it until I see myself in a mirror or pictures.
Thank you to everyone who was so kind about it! I was so anxious to share and everyone was beyond kind. Smile Texas was incredible!
